Routinely-stained histologic sections show needle shaped fragments of lymphoma showing two distinct components: 1) A predominant vaguely nodular component of medium-sized lymphoma cells with irregular nuclear contour, clumped chromatin, inconspicuous nucleoli and scant cytoplasm. 2) A second minor component of large lymphoid cells with frequently bilobed nuclei, prominent nucleoli and abundant cytoplasm consistent with Reed-Sternberg (RS) cells and variants.
