Lessons From the Friday Unknowns

Histologic sections show fragments of fibroadipose tissue, skeletal muscle, nerve bundles and lymphoid tissue extensively infiltrated by lymphoma showing follicular and diffuse patterns.

The neoplastic follicles are predominantly composed of large centroblasts with irregular nuclear contours, open chromatin and one to multiple nucleoli.

Large lymphoma cells include bi- and multinucleated forms with prominent eosinophilic nucleoli. Focally, the large lymphoma cells show a diffuse infiltration patten and are associated with marked sclerosis. Mitotic figures are frequent. No areas of frank tumor necrosis are identified.
