Lymphocyte-Rich Classic Hodgkin Lymphoma, Nodular variant

Lessons From the Friday Unknowns

Histologic sections show lymph node partially effaced by lymphoma. The neoplasm is nodular and the nodules are composed of Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg cells in a background of small lymphocytes, scattered eosinophils and histiocytes. Reactive germinal centers are present in some of the nodules.

The large neoplastic cells are positive for CD15, CD30 and PAX-5 (weak) and are negative for CD20 and CD45.

CD15
CD30
PAX5
CD45

In summary, these findings support the diagnosis of lymphocyte-rich classic Hodgkin lymphoma, nodular variant.
