Histologic sections show small needle-shaped fragments of tissue involved by lymphoma. The lymphoma is diffuse and composed of intermediate size neoplastic cells with irregular nuclear contours and dispersed nuclear chromatin. Numerous single cell apoptotic bodies, nuclear debris, and overt necrosis is seen.
