Neoplasm Lessons From the Friday Unknowns

Sections of the retroperitoneal lymph node needle biopsy show scattered, atypical large lymphoid cells having distinct nucleoli that are present in a background of small lymphocytes and histiocytes. Eosinophils are not increased.

Immunoperoxidase stained sections show positive show positive immunoperoxidase staining of the atypical large lymphoid cells for CD20, CD30, BCL-6 and MUM-1. No definitive immunoreactivity of atypical large cells for CD15, BOB-1, CD45, Bcl-2, CD10 or EMA is detected. No meshworks of CD23-positive dendritic dendritic cells are detected within the lymphomatous proliferation. An EBER stain is not evaluable (no tissue). Immunostains for CD79a and CD43 are not evaluable (limited tissue).
